We have had tasting parties for everything from apples to chocolate to root beer & cream soda. She graduated from Juilliard, then MSU. We wrote songs together & she taught me how to read music. When I say, “Mère, qu’est-ce que c’est?” She answers back, “Oh, that’s grandma’s old lead crystal set.” & when I tell her, “Jeg elsker dig” she says, “Jeg elsker dig også, skat.” My teachers told her I was in trouble for drawing in the margins of my homework & she told them she was proud of me for bothering to turn in my homework at all. Then she asked to see the margin drawings, & I showed her & she bought me sketchbooks & canvases & paints & told me to make more, to make more & never stop. Never has anyone in all my life shown me such support, compassion, & understanding as well as plain enjoyment in how I’m wired. I’m so happy that this is the particular mother I was graced with.
